Beach Clean-ups 2008
Over 75 CMRC volunteers braved the long trip to Jamaica Bay to participate in the CMRC’s 4 beach clean-ups held this season. Volunteers cleared trash and marine debris from Big Egg Marsh Beach, Memorial Field Beach, and Fort Tilden Beach.
In total volunteers collected 2,568 pieces of garbage. The top 4 most common items by percent of total are bags (24.87%), plastic beverage bottles (17.1%), cups, plates, forks, knives, spoons (9.19%) and glass beverage bottles (7.75%). These top 4 items represent over half (59%) of the total.
